Ultramarathoner Scores Because of his Heart Rate Monitor

Bob Crowley headsshot1.jpgOn a performance scale of one to ten with ten the best, how many races have you finished that you scored a 9.5? That’s a near perfect race result especially if it is only trumped by meeting your goals for the event. Boston’s Bob Crowley (see picture) had just one of those days on Saturday when he ran his umpteenth American River 50 Mile Endurance Run from Sacramento to Auburn, CA. And he gives credit for his stellar performance to the training tool that made the 9.5 possible – his heart rate monitor. As Bob reports to the head heart, Sally Edwards, “Felt great the entire race running precisely at 70% of maximum heart rate (126 bpm) finishing in 9 hours and thirteen minutes, my best performance since 1996.” Running with the heart rate tool, Bob passed 78 runners during the last 25 miles and felt so strong that he ran the steep 20% grade for the final 2.5 miles to the finish line. Bob shares how he felt at the finish line of a 9.5 race ‘I had energy, gas, left in the tank at the finish.” Bob, founder ofmustangegroup.comThe Mustang Group, a private equity firm, is training for the Western States 100 miler which is in 10-weeks. He used the American River 50 Miler as a time trial to determine his heart rate intensity for his next ultramarthon. Congrats to Bob and to everyone who races using their heart and training with the system, Heart Zones Training.
