Paul Camerer (aka "Pinkhouse")
Who: Paul Camerer
Where: Sacramento, California
What: Developed the first individually owned Heart Zones Cycling Center
in the United States!
Initial Investment: $266 (Blue Jersey Qualification $249, Heart Rate Monitor
Workbook $17)
Revenue: Priceless!
Paul Camerer defies nature. At least he defies the 220-age formula for maximum heart rate. Paul is 87 years old. His maximum heart rate cycling is 190 bpm. He is an incredible human being. This past year he completed his first century ride (tandem with friend and neighbor, Estelle Grey). He has done triathlons and marathons. He is also a Blue Jersey Cycling Trainer. Qualified in Seattle in October, 2004, Paul used his credentials to build a unique indoor cycling opportunity for his neighborhood.
Paul cleaned out his garage and invited a few friends to bring their bikes and trainers over for a Heart Zones Cycling workout. He started with one friend. That one friend invited another friend, who informed another friend of the workouts. Soon, the garage was full. A rack was built on one wall to hold the trainers for the class when not in use. Because Paul lives in a pink house in Sacramento, his workouts became known as Heart Zones Cycling at the Pinkhouse Gym.
Paul doesn’t charge for the workouts. He asks his friends, who number as many as a dozen at any given time, to bring music to share. He often cooks whole wheat pancakes for breakfast afterwards and shares fresh oranges from his trees.
Paul Camerer is an example of the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Silly). He puts his “heart” into Heart Zones Cycling and into the hearts of all the members of the Pinkhouse Gym.
