Criteria: Heart Zones recognizes exceptional Physical Education (PE) teachers who demonstrate excellence in teaching, innovation, PEtech, and leadership. 


To qualify as a Distinguished Teacher, an educator must meet the following criteria:


  • Professional Excellence: All of the following:
    • Holds a valid teaching credential in Physical Education or a related field.
    • Has a minimum of two years of experience teaching with Heart Zones Move Solution equipment.
    • Consistently demonstrates best practices in PE instruction, including differentiated instruction and student engagement strategies.


  • Commitment to Student Health & Wellness: All of the following:
    • Implements and promotes a step-tracking and/or heart rate-based fitness curriculum.
    • Encourages student participation in physical activity beyond class time.
    • Shows measurable improvement in student fitness levels over time.


  • Use of Heart Zones Move solution PE-Technology: All of the following:
    • Integrates Heart Zones technology into PE lessons effectively.
    • Provides data-driven instruction using heart rate monitoring and activity tracking.
    • Trains students on the importance of heart rate zones and cardiovascular health.


  • Leadership & Professional Development: One of the following:
    • Serves as a mentor or coach for other PE teachers inviting them to visit your school and see Heart Zones effectively applied.
    • Regularly attends and participates in professional development opportunities.
    • Presents at workshops, conferences, or district meetings on innovative PE strategies.


  • Positive Impact on School & Community - One of the following:
    • Actively collaborates with school administrators and colleagues to improve PE programs.
    • Engages with parents and the broader community to promote both physical fitness and physical literacy initiatives.


  • Organizes school-wide or community fitness events that foster a culture of wellness.


Recognition & Rewards: Teachers and schools that meet the Heart Zones Distinguished Teacher and Model

School criteria will receive:
